Medical College of Wisconsin
Lifeblood Medical, Inc. has entered into two separate agreements with the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) to study and enhance Lifeblood Medical’s proprietary solution LIFOR®. The studies will focus on ways to increase LIFOR®’s ability to preserve human hearts and kidneys in a transplantable condition beyond thirty-six hours.
“We are excited to have a major national research center assisting us in our studies,” says Lifeblood Medical, Inc. President and Chief Executive Officer Joseph Fischer. “Our goal is to extend LIFOR®’s cell-preservation time to the point where no organ goes unused. “
“The current wait for an American on the national waiting list is five to eight years, and is expected to double by 2010. By providing the research that will help lengthen the time organs remain viable in LIFOR®, organ procurement organizations will gain the time needed to cross match and test organs for viral and other infections. Additional time will be available for organ transportation, not only in the United States but overseas. The execution of these objectives will allow us to have readily available organs for the first time ever through a worldwide organ network.”
