We believe our technology will be shown to significantly improve the viability of human cells, tissues and organs, while they await or undergo research, diagnostic, or therapeutic procedures. The technology is an oxygen and nutrient-bearing nanoparticle solution that preserves and repairs human tissue at the cellular level. We believe it will be shown to afford the following benefits:
More Time: - Our solutions will permit significantly longer periods for transporting harvested tissues and organs, thereby increasing the number of tissue samples and whole organs available for use across cities, states and countries and, thus, potentially increasing the size of the market.
Less Damage: - Our solutions will minimize damage to cells and maintain cell viability in transit because it does not require cold temperatures for preservation, unlike all other methods. Our solutions do not contain any cryopreservation agents, such as DMSO and HES, which causes cell toxicity. Our solutions do not crystallize or form ice.
Cell Repair: - Our solutions permit cells to repair themselves, especially from damage caused during the harvesting process, so that long term viability – including organ transplants – improves.
Sterile State: - Our solutions do not use any animal sera or proteins, so the risk of infection or contamination is minimized.
Various published studies have validated the LIFOR® advantage. These same studies have allowed us to proceed with clinical trials for room temperature organ preservation that should be completed by the end of 2011.
